How To Tell If Condensation In or On Your Windows Is Normal
While condensation on windows is often normal, it can also point to a problem. Frank Amory from Window Depot breaks down how to tell if it’s just typical moisture or something that needs attention.
When Condensation Is Normal:
- If you see fog or moisture on the inside or outside of your window, try to draw a smiley face with your finger.
- If you can draw on the fog, it’s simply caused by the temperature and humidity differences between the inside and outside of your home.
When Condensation Is a Problem:
- If the fog or moisture is between the glass panes of your double or triple-pane window, and you can’t draw a smiley face, that indicates a seal failure.
- Seal failure means the seal around your window has been compromised, allowing moisture to get trapped between the panes.
